Bathroom #3

The last bathroom is finally done!  Ok, before any smarty pants say I cannot count, yes, I know I have only posted one other bathroom remodel, and this says bath #3.  We had the kids hall bath remodeled first, then the master bath about a year ago.  But, we still have not finished the master.  Yes, I am slow!   We are currently working on refinishing the cabinets in there.  So, until I get around to posting that one  (and its a biggie!), I will suffice with this one. 

We just completed the hall bath on the other side of the house.  It is by the 4th bedroom that Charlie currently uses as his office and is the smallest of the bathrooms.   We redid the shower in it, replaced the toilet, fixtures and faucet and retiled the floor.  The paneling was also replaced with headboard and all of the moldings were replaced.  Then, I painted it out.

We just have to get the glass shower door installed.  It only took us about 6 months to install the glass on the shower in the master bath, so we'll see how long we will wait on this one!!

Pool Renovations Complete!

Well, the pool is done.  For now, at least.  Eventually, we will probably do the tile and coping if we plan to stay here.  But, it had to have the minimal amount done, so that is what we did.  

First, they drained the pool, then pressure washed, acid rinsed and chipped away parts of the plaster.

Then, they repaired the tile that had fallen off and the corner of the coping.  Now, it was time to plaster!    That was  a pretty neat process.  They use a big hose and basically "blow" it in, then just start troweling and smoothing and working it around.  The more they smooth it, the more it sets.  Then, they placed the spotter tiles on the steps, the bench and as a line where the big slope to the deep end starts.  After the plaster was all smoothed out, they began to fill the pool.  The water cures the plaster.  

Once the pool was filled, they returned to begin balancing the water.  The first step is acid, then to neutralize.  Also, they went around and repaired mortar in the brick coping and patched up some spots, as well as replaced the mastic around the outside of the brick between it and the decking.  We changed this to tan rather than grey to coordinate with the mortar on the brick.  And, there you have it!!

 

Let the Pool Renovations, Round 2 Begin!

I know it's been a while since we've updated here, and I actually do have a lot to add.  But, ill start with our current project then later work backwards through our other completed projects and updates.  

Today, we begin draining the pool for what we'll call Pool Reno, Round 2.  If you remember back to when we first bought the house, the pool was black.  

We knew it had black algae, and that although we drained and pressure washed and changed to saltwater, eventually the algae would grow again.  Our plaster is very old and pitted.   And, yes, every year the algae returns in minimal amounts.  

This year was no exception, and the pitted plaster has become so old and worn, the algae grabbed on and had some fun.  Way worse than it has ever been!

In addition, some of the tile and coping began falling off because that happens when the pool is what ours is, just plain OLD!

We decided it is time to bite the big one and get the pool redone.  So, today the draining begins once again.  

We are just doing plaster and repairing the tile and coping for right now, so we may even have a 3rd part in the next year or so.  There are obviously many more updates to come!
